PAW PRINTS

I followed some tracks
Of a Puppy, I think
While I walked around yesterday

I wandered around
Over hill and o're dale
Not too long and I'd lost my way

A Puppy... or not
Maybe Marmot or Yak
Could be Elephant, Fox, or Cow

I hope that it's small
Penguin, Mouse, or Gnu
I'll find room though I'm not sure how

Although I'd been warned
My mother was most stern
You can't bring home anymore strays

I've found it at last
Oh sweet! It's a Lion!
Please mom, it's just one more... okay?

I love how kids, when they're very young, have no idea how much work pets take. My kids had multiple hamsters, parakeets, cats, a tortoise, and fish. And my son thought a panda would be nice. There might actually still be a hamster roaming around in our walls.
